Gresik - Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa discussed cooperation in the preparation of skilled labor with the leaders of the Java Integrated Industrial and Port Estate (JIIPE) industry in Manyar District, Gresik.
Khofifah wanted to prepare a workforce with special skills needed by JIIPE early, before the area was fully operational in 2028.
"What do we want to match the specific skills needed? In order for the workforce to be prepared from the start. For example, a smelter factory is being built here, very large, around 100 ha, which is expected to absorb four thousand workers, while the total workforce absorbed if fully operational can reach more than 300 thousand people. We want to prepare workers according to what they need, "Governor Khofifah said when visiting JIIPE in Gresik, Thursday (22/8).
He said by matching the needs of specific skills, the government could prepare and map the workforce preparation program in accordance with these needs.
After that, he explained, the government could follow up by involving SMK, Aliyah, dual track high school, as well as Diploma 1 (D1), Diploma 3 (D3), or Bachelor (S1) education in East Java.
"So we can get an early confirmation so that preparations can also be carried out immediately. We hope that the workforce with the specific skills needed can later be absorbed by industries in the JIIPE region," he added.
Khofifah is optimistic that the presence of JIIPE can be an important part of East Java, an industrial province. As much as 29.4% of the province's economic growth is supported by the industrial sector. Khofifah hopes, JIIPE will become an integrated industrial area that can reduce production costs considering all facilities related to raw materials, electricity, availability of clean water, gas, sewage treatment as well as integrated settlements and ports so that it is effectively efficient.
The former Minister of Social Affairs added that all industrial processes in JIIPE must have a good waste treatment process, so that the carrying capacity of the environment can be maintained.
"Processing of waste in this industrial estate will be easier, cheaper, and the control is also faster. Because it is impossible for the waste, especially the toxic and hazardous (B3) waste, to be thrown into the sea," he said.
Khofifah added that the core of the presence of JIIPE was also an important part to build synergy and accelerate industrial development in East Java. Plus there are things that will be planned, namely access to connectivity between Gresik, Surabaya, Sidoarjo, Lamongan, and other cities.
Bambang Soetiono, President Director of JIIPE said that of the total workforce at JIIPE there were 83% of whom were local workers. Not only that, to improve the welfare of the surrounding community, he has appealed to tenants to use local labor.
"We have also done an MoU with 3 villages, namely Manyarejo, Manyar Sidorukun, and Manyar Sidomukti, to use local workers. Then, in collaboration with Qomaruddin Islamic Boarding School to conduct training, and we assisted graduates in JIIPE," he said.
President Director Bambang said that JIIPE stands on an area of 3,000 hectares (ha) and an area of 400 hectares including the port area. Then the industrial area of 1,800 hectares (ha) and another 800 hectares (ha) is designated as residential and recreational areas.
"JIIPE was established in order to reduce national logistics costs, so JIIPE was established integrated between ports, industrial estates and housing," he added.
President Director Bambang explained that JIIPE is a good integrated industrial area role model, because the land is quite extensive, and the infrastructure is complete. There are ports, industrial and residential areas. Therefore, the workers, especially those from Gresik and its surroundings, do not need to go far and away.
Not only that, also attended by several heads of OPD in the scope of East Java Provincial Government, namely the Head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Head of Manpower and Transmigration, the Head of the Environmental Service, and the Head of the East Java Economic Bureau.
